Shoji Hattori has been a full time
Police Officer for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) since 2008. Hattori
is currently assigned to Training Division, Firearms Training Section as a senior
primary firearms instructor as a rank of Police Officer-III. As a senior firearms instructor his
responsibility includes training firearms instructors, recruits and in-service training and qualification for pistol, shotgun, rifle, less-than-lethal weapon
and chemical agent. Hattori has been
awarded the 2020 LAPD Officer of the Quarter 2020 (Jan-March) and the Officer
of the Year Officer in 2021 as having exceptional teaching skills and
dedication to the firearms training program for the department. He is also a POST certified Arrest and
Control Instructor, Patrol Rifle instructor, Certified Decocker Pistol Instructor,
POST Certified Pistol with Modular Optics (MRDS) Instructor, 1911 Certified, Shotgun
Slug Operator and recognized as the department’s Distinguished Expert and a
multiple perfect 400 shooter.
As a LAPD senior firearms
instructor, Hattori is responsible for training 18 academy classes over the
course of 11 years amounting to over 900 recruits. Hattori raised an
unprecedented 39 Expert shooters in the LAPD Academy classes. Hattori’s
accomplishment includes having four academy classes that all medaled in the
prestigious LAPD Bonus course which has not been done in the recorded history
of the department.
Hattori is the owner and the lead
instructor for Tactical Advanced Combat LLC (TAC-1). TAC-1 was established in
2010 as a multi-disciplinary firearms instructional school based in Los
Angeles, CA. Hattori also acts as an adjunct instructor for the National Law
Enforcement Firearms Instructor Association.
